Post Move Unpacking Tips to Keep Your Home Free Of Clutter

Moving into a new home is an incredibly exciting time. But one not-so-exciting part of the moving process? Unpacking.

Unpacking can not only be a tedious process, but it can also make your new home feel like a cluttered, disorganized mess—that is, if you don’t unpack strategically.

So, what’s the best way to unpack and keep things looking tidy and orderly in the process? An article from realtor.com outlined unpacking tips you can use to stay organized and clutter-free after moving into your new home, including:

  • Unpack by room. You may be tempted to unpack a box here and a box there. But if you want to keep things organized and uncluttered, unpacking room by room is a better strategy. Once you’ve unpacked the essentials you need for day-to-day living, start by unpacking the room you use most (for example, the kitchen)—and then don’t move on to another room until that room is completely unpacked and clear of boxes.
  • Continue to get rid of items you don’t need. Hopefully, you used packing as an opportunity to get rid of items you no longer need or use. But just because you’ve moved doesn’t mean you need to stop the purging process! As you’re unpacking, continue to evaluate each item—and if an item you no longer want or need somehow snuck into one of your boxes, use unpacking as an opportunity to get rid of it (and prevent it from cluttering your new home).
  • Use organizers. Unpacking is one part of the equation. But if you want to keep your new home as clutter-free as possible, once your belongings are unpacked, you’ll need to organize them! Take stock of what you have—and then invest in organizing supplies (like bins, trays, or boxes) to organize your closets, drawers, and other storage spaces.
